The Lake Villa Township AARP Chapter 3978 meets in the Township Community Room B in the Supervisor's wing. The AARP Board meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Their general meeting is held on the second Thursday of the month from noon to 3 p.m. New members are always welcome.
This is a low income benefit to seniors age 65 or older or disabled citizens who pay a property tax or rent. The only qualification is that the person or household must earn no more than $14,000 income total per year. If a person qualifies for Circuit Breaker they would automatically qualify for pharmaceutical assistance. For application forms or more information contact the Assessor's Office.
The Treasurer's Office of Lake County has a program in which a senior citizen 65 years or older who is having trouble paying their real estate taxes may defer all or part of their taxes on their homes if they qualify (maximum household income of $25,000). The deferral is a loan by the State with interest to be repaid after the death of the taxpayer, or at the time the property is sold. Two forms necessary for applying for this program are available in the Assessor's Office. Additional information and forms can be obtained from the Lake County Treasurer's Office.
Under this program, up to $50,000 of the equalized assessed value of a home owned by a qualifying veteran, or the veteran's spouse is exempt from property taxes. Application is made through the Illinois Dept. of Veterans' Affairs, 1 N. Genesee Street, Waukegan IL.
The Senior Citizen Recognition Day is held annually during the summer months at the Lakewood Forest Preserve. Many agencies as well as the townships assist the Lake County Board in sponsoring this event. Food, beverages, prizes, entertainment, services and information booths create a fun filled day which is provided free to all Lake County Seniors.
Lake Villa Township has two programs available for seniors or the disabled citizens who are in need of personal or emergency support. ARE YOU OK? is a program provided in conjunction with the Lake County Sheriff's Department, at no cost to residents. This is a computer based telephone system that calls individuals at a pre-determined time each day to assure their well-being. Seniors and disabled citizens can feel safer and more secure knowing that they can depend on a daily phone call to confirm all is well, or to summon help in an emergency. Anyone who feels they or a family member would qualify and benefit from the program may contact the Supervisor's Office for further information or to complete the registration for this no cost program.
Convenient, low-cost transportation is available to Lake Villa Township senior citizens at least 60 years of age or disabled residents. Lake Villa Township offers bus and taxi service through PACE providing door-to-door service between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. DIAL-A-RIDE BUS: For the convenience of passengers who require aid in boarding, the Bus service is equipped with a hydraulic wheelchair lift. Just call 1-800-244-7223 24 hours in advance to go anywhere in Antioch, Avon, Grant, or Lake Villa Township. Service to locations within and between a four township area costs $1.00. You must register with Dial-A-Ride to use this service. TRAIN: The RTA Reduced Fare Program is for senior citizens age 65 and older and people with disabilities who ride the train. Applications are processed in the Supervisor's office for the RTA Pass that will allow up to 50% off regular RTA train and bus fare. One of The following forms of identification is needed to process an application: Driver's License, State of Illinois Identification Card, passport, or U.S. Immigration Alien Registration Card. A color photograph clearly showing your face and shoulders sized l 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches is also required. If a photo is not available, the Supervisor's Office will take your picture at the time of your application free of charge to township residents. Processing will take approximately three weeks. |
